Riley and Lily On The Hunt

Thanks to Butch Wilson for this fun photo of Riley and recently passed Lily going "on the hunt'' during a walk. They have a Gecko, mouse or maybe a bird cornered in that rose bush.

Two centuries ago owners of small farms in Scotland prized their sturdy little working Cairn Terriers. Bred to rid their properties of vermin, these early Cairns would "go to ground" to hold or bolt otter, weasel and fox.

They worked in pairs or small packs and possessed great hunting instincts, focus and persistence. Such a working terrier was one of the farmers most prized possessions.

Many Cairns today participate in Earthdog competitions, and in agility and other activities. But everyday Cairn owners get a glimpse of the keen instincts when, out for a walk, their Cairns catch a scent, hear something scurrying around in the brush, and on the chase they go.

Join The Fun At Our Christmas Party Dec. 5

Save the date and don't be late! The CTCSC annual Christmas Party is being held on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m. at Carol Roemer's house in Long Beach.

We'll enjoy spaghetti dinner and all the fixins, no need to shop for food, but desserts are welcomed. There's room for all, and any Cairns you might want to bring along.
Click here for a map, directions and more information.

This year we do encourage you to bring donations for a very worthy cause. Operation Santa Paws aids pets in Long Beach shelters. Click here to see how you can help an unfortunate dog, or even a cat! Hey, it's the holidays!

But did you know that a Cairn was rescued from a dog pound and ended up starring in the movie "Pal Joey'' with Frank Sinatra? The scruffy little Cairn even joined Sinatra at the movie's press preview.

You can see the Cairn in action in a few video clips. Just click here.

Cairn 6-Pack Rescue Update

Back in September the CTCSC rescued six Cairn Terriers. Last week Keith went to a new home, adopted by someone who had rescued a Cairn from the CTCSC 15 years ago!

The only remaining Cairn is Debbie, a lovely little girl.

In addition to the Cairn 6-Pack, the club has been busy placing three additional Cairns as well, one from San Diego, one from Buena Park and one from Fallbrook.

If you would like to know more about Debbie or help support our rescue program, please contact Karen Smith, redcoat@tfb.com or 760-728-7133.
