Beware of Breed Fraud

Many Cairn terrier owners can attest that while out with their dogs they are asked if it is a Norwich or another similar question: "Is that the dog breed that won in the movie Best in Show?''

No, that dog was Winky, a Norwich terrier.

A Cairn terrier is not a Norwich. But unscrupulous breeders are trying to pull off this switch. Why? Because the Norwich breed is popular, relatively scarce and available dogs go for premium prices.

Recently in the United States, there has been significant pedigree fraud, especially involving Cairn terriers. According to The Norwich & Norfolk News, published by the Norwich and Norfolk Terrier Club, unscrupulous people have been selling docked-tail Cairn Terriers or mixed-breed dogs to unsuspecting buyers. Sometimes these fake Norwich Terriers are sold over the internet.

Buyers can protect themselves from fraud by working only with reputable breeders recommended by breed societies. It is highly recommended that you visit the breeder and the dogs in the breeder's home.

Christmas Cheer: Cairn Pups and Santa

Thanks to CTCSC Treasurer Dennis Broderick for sending along these great shots of his Betty and her four new puppies with Santa.

In the photo, from left to right, are Vero (Veronica), Decker (Deck Boss), Ace (Rogue Wave) and Joi (Fat Girl). What a great shot!

The pups are with Mom Betty, shown in the second photo, where they were born in Oregon. Two pups are staying with the breeder, Marie Quarles, and two will be headed to new homes.

Mom Betty returns to Dennis on New Year's Eve.

Thanks for sharing these great shots, Dennis.

Meet The Breed Booth Takes 3rd Place

Thanks to all who helped transport, set up, decorate and staff the Cairn Terrier Club of Southern California's Meet the Breed booth at the AKC national championship show in Long Beach.

Our booth took 3rd Place. That means we have won a ribbon every year of the event, including taking the grand prize one year.

Special thanks go to Dennis Broderick. This year, as he has many, many times in the past, Dennis transported items from the storage center, packed them up to the show site, helped assemble everything, staffed the booth both days with his wonderful Cairn Deuce, and then dismantled everything and transported it back.

The CTCSC members thank you Dennis for all your efforts.
